Description For Prospective Staff:
Fernwood is a camp that encourages participation, exploration and personal
growth through simple group living in the outdoors. Our traditional program provides girls with a forum to experience new challenges,
enhance self confidence, develop skills, and establish friendships in safe,
beautiful surroundings. Each person at Fernwood brings something special to the atmosphere and co-operative spirit. Our unique gathering of girls and caring, mature, professional staff creates a diverse and supportive community. Our staff is comprised of teachers, college gradutaes and students drawn from many parts of the United States and the world. Each counselor is a specialist posessing the knowledge and ability to teach or assist in one or more activity areas.
Fernwood offers a wide range of activity choices encouraging a balance between the active and the creative. In addition to our instructional activities, our program includes a traditional Saturday night campfire, singing, plays, costume parties, treasure hunts, team competition, intramural sports, skit nights and socials. We also run an excellent out of camp tripping program including hiking, canoeing, biking and overnight trips. Female counselor staff live with the campers in spacious wooden cabins with internal bathrooms. Male staff and support staff live in the staff lodges. We provide staff with three excellent meals each day (we earned the nickname "Foodwood" from our past staff!), laundry each week, and all bed linens. We also understand that structured time off, as well as free time during the day, is very important for you to recharge your
batteries. You will have one afternoon/evening off each week, as well as five full (24 hour) days throughout the summer. A comprehensive staff training takes place before campers arrive, allowing you to become familiar
with the environment, as well as develop a camraderie with your fellow staff before the campers arrive. Our salaries are very competitive, and we also offer a travel stipend to help you get to Maine! Call us at 585-271-1938.
